    World News Thread

Here's a thread to discuss the big and important news stories going on in the world.

Obviously the Japanese earthquake/tsunami has been huge, looking at footage of it is crazy! Mother Nature's one violent motherlover.

Also, the biggest class action in American history could be going down - Millions of Women vs Walmart. Down to apparent sexual discrimination naturally. Be interesting to see if it goes forward and what the repercussions of it will be.

The earthquake in Japan is the largest they've recorded in their history of recording earthquakes (Which is, IIRC, 110 years. Plus it caused a malfunction coolant systems in the Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant, causing it to explode and leak radiation.

So yeah, it's pretty bad. According to Wikipedia, there are over 2000 dead, with plenty more injured.

Libyan protests have progressed into a civil war, with Libyan dictator Muammar al-Gaddafi committing warcrimes left and right, including bombing their own civilian protesters, executing soldiers unwilling to fight, having his forces wear civilian clothing, and supposedly having ambulances with injured protesters taken over by mercenaries to kill the protesters.

Yeah, I think people forget that other stuff is going on because of the Japanese natural disaster. I reckon there will be a hell of a lot more than 2000 confirmed dead in Japan.

As for the stuff going down in Libya, it's been threatening to happen for years and years and it seems like the Egyptian protesters winning their fight seemed to spur on the anti-Gadaffi contingent. It'll be a long, horrible one but hopefully that scumbag will be brought to sentence to atone for his crimes.
