    Ragnarok Online [Again]

Post  Dio on Wed Sep 08, 2010 1:44 pm

So Cursed and I got in a conversation about Ragnarok Online servers, seems he's currently playing some x1.5 rate free to play server hosted officially. I figured theres probably a better unofficial server out there if we felt inclined to hunt one down.

    So yeah, Looking for Group!
Going for an Alchemist, probably maining the Homonculus/Plant skills.
Looking for a server, preferably with rates from atleast x5 to about x45.

    Folks intrested?

It's a Mo-Mor-Po-gah, of course there will be grinding.
Why do we even want to play this game? Well apparently the social element of group questing (by questing I mean monster hunting based on who wants what rare item) is quite nice and kills time. It's quite addictive though as apparent by the fact KingK played this game for atleast 4 years as far as I kept track.

It's also ironically better than most 'Free to Play' games since the private server software is pretty openly available to those who look and thusly people who want to make money with a server have to up their game above the competition's. Where is Free to Play games usually don't have any direct opponents other than their own fickle 12 year old userbases.

Never Played RO? Let me explain:

You start as a Novice, you head outside into the fields (assuming you start at Prontera or whatever the capital is) and murder a load of animals to level up. Depending on how your server treats class ups at level 10 you will either go a certain town and undertake a trial to advance into a job-class or just talk to a conveient NPC who can make you anything you like.

There are 6 main job classes: Swordsmen, Archers, Mages, Acolytes, Theives and Merchants.
Eventually each of these jobs will hit a wall and need to class up to get further abilities...
Swordsmen Become Knights or Crusaders, Archers become Hunters or Bards/Dancers (depending on their gender), Mages become Wizards or Sages, Acolytes become Priests or Monks, Theives become Assassins or Rogues and Merchants become Blacksmiths or Alchemists.

Eventually you will hit level 99/75 or something and can't level anymore... or can you? You can 'rebirth' as a Novice again, and then you become a 'High' version of your previous class with slightly better stat gain - then you become the next rank of your class after re-leveling from level 1. So; Lord Knight, Paladin, Sniper, Minstal/Gypsies, High Wizard, Scholar, High Priest, Champion, Assassin Cross, Stalker, Whitesmith or Creator.

Then guess what... If your in a sufficiently convulted server you can do the whole process once you hit maximum level again in order to access another level of character. Handily most Private Servers consider it too much bullshit to allow. In the mean time between these class-ups you will be dragged around the pyrimids by a assassin cross who wants a rare drop from a monster so his critical rate ups by another 1%.

You know there's something about killing horribly adorable creatures in a generic anime MMORPG that's somewhat fun.
I'm thinking about LuminaRO (already showed Dio)
But I also want to see what you guys think about it!
Whatever server we end up picking going for Rogue :p

I'll sell flowers and you can grafitti the guild icon on the top floor of Thanatos' Tower.
Actually no, scrap that I learnt to use Alchemists and Thanatos' Tower is rape.

if you're thinking about the new 3rd classes, then you dont need to rebirth again for those.

Also, I generally dont play anything below 150x

I already play this server http://esuna-ro.com/

    Hunter or Bard/Dancer?

Hunter is Pure Damage-Per-Second based, you max out your Agility and Dex so your firing a hundred arrows per second and then use bird skills to hammer in more damage than the normal sprite-lag allows you to deal. No seriously.

Bard gets a bunch of Area of Effect type buffs/auras, pretty sure they're the only class which can boost other characters' SP regen rate, in other words they make good friends for SP intensive classes. Bard usually sticks to bow, allot of dancers switch to using a whip I hear since the gender actually effects the class skills slightly (Only for that class though).

As a side note KingK seems to be thinking of playing a Knight.

Damage Per Second or DPS, Generally refers to anything or anyone who's sole purpose in a party is to hit the enemy with as much hurt as they can in as short a time; Usually glass cannons like Wizards/Archers are best for this.

Best example I ever saw was City of Heroes which had two melee classes - Brutes and Scrappers.
Which is just another way of saying Tank and DPS.

Anyway enough with the MMO lingo lesson,
I'll contact everyone over messenger before we hit the game en-masse.
Saves anyone having a level 40 and having to wait on someone getting up to speed in the game.

Depends if the little bugger eats pet food or something more rare/expensive,
If the server has custom pets (Ie. Where you can get nearly anything as a pet) then one of those might suit better.

I need to look up suitable builds, though chances are i'll wing it like I usually do.
