    Big Boss Hunting

Post  Dio on Mon Aug 31, 2009 3:02 pm

Allright, i've been playing a spot of Phantasy Star, and i'm a little ticked off since I don't actually have anything bigger to kill than the last boss I just killed (Giant Two headed multi-elemental dragon thing). So yeah, ever played any games where your your biggest bit of satisfaction was allways finding something bigger than the last thing you killed and brutally murdering it?

Obviously Shadow of the Collosus will get more than one honorary mention here since it's the quintesential 'Big thing' hunting game, there are only what; two potentially dangerous small things which are still bigger than you anyway? Of course much humor can be had in SotC by hunting smaller things: e.g. Turtles, Gekos, Fish, Your pet horse.

Monster Hunter develops into this sort of game too once your past the whole gathering and raptor hunting stages of the game, of course you usually have to spend allot of time preparing to kill the bosses because if your not ready to brutally maul them they'll do it to you instead.

You wouldn't immediately suspect a mech game but the later Armored Core games actually have you chasing down and tearing apart what are dubbed 'Arms Forts'; Giant moving weapons platforms. Though this part of the game is the easy part of the game and it only gets easier once you get the "nuclear fist thing".

Aquanox had a pretty bigass final boss too, though, I never really feel that urge to find something bigger to be honest, I just kill as it comes, regardless of size.

My boss is pretty big. Brutally murdering her may stunt my chances of getting back at Xmas/next summer though...we'll see.

Speaking of Big Bosses, I had an urge to play Muramasa again today (a proper good Wii game :O ) and I ended up going down to hell to beat up another big ass mother. All the bosses in the game take a fair while to take down so it really feels like you're fighting something colossal.

Next stop...Heaven (apparently that's actually true Very Happy)
