    Rhythm Action Games

Post  mcmicken on Fri Aug 28, 2009 4:40 am

I've dodged it for long enough but I think it's time we talked about these. Now this seems to be one of the most commonly debated questions in modern, mainstream gaming over the past few years so we've no doubt heard tons of opinions on it but I want Goldengate's opinions.

Is perfecting something on, say Guitar Hero, as worthwhile as learning something on a real guitar?

As a musician I see both sides of the argument and I'll admit, when all these things came out I was very sceptical (mainly because I could play stuff on real guitar that I couldn't on Guitar Hero...) but having flirted mildly with them I've come to enjoy them for what they are. Games, simulators, tests of rhythm.

Also, I don't like how people think this wave of them are the first kind of game. Anyone remember the old DDR games? I still have a dance-mat. Used to be an absolute demon on it Very Happy

Anyway, I'll expand on my opinions if we get a bit of discussion on the go.

Its easier to learn playing guitar hero (unless you are a old person or a woman)

There's alot of fun rhytm games for the DS too.

I also hate DDR (since I find dancing silly, and I dont like embarrasing stuff)

A factor which has recently come to light concerning Rock Band and GH. Although they are a great way for lesser known bands to get their music out to a wider audience, it also gives record labels the chance to exploit and use it as a shameless excuse to release re-masters/re-issues of old stuff charged at full price.

10 awesome points to anyone who can guess what particular game I'm talking about (I'm sure I mentioned it at the Goldengate meet so how's your memory for those who were there?)

Correct but being really anal with my awesome points but "beetles" should be spelled Beatles and have the capital because it's a proper noun.

    English grammar up yo' ass!

I'll give you 5 awesome points for being correct.
